Top tips for Le Marais, Paris
Paris, je t’aime! Paris is one of the cities I love most in Europe. Because of the extremely stylish Parisians, and the beautiful old buildings. But also the romantic surroundings. And the arty Le Marais. This quarter, which means swamp, is one of the oldest quarters in Paris. It is situated in the 3rd and 4th district, bordering the Seine.
What to do in Le Marais
When I’m in Paris, I like to wander around the beautiful alleys of Le Marais. Where there are lots of cool restaurants, coffee lounges, boutiques and concept stores. Take Metro line 1 and get off at the Saint-Paul stop. This is where my route starts, with all the cool and fun things to do in Le Marais. Also with the kids!
1. Place des Vosges
One of the most beautiful spots in Paris! Walk along the beautiful mansions. Or watch people go by, sat on one of the many benches around the square. During Summer, this is a popular place for locals, to have a relaxing picnic.
2. Visit a museum
Like the Picasso Museum. This museum is worth visiting just for its gorgeous location, situated in the stunning 17th century home Hotel Salé. Or the Centre Pompidou. Equally fascinating. Close by you will find the Stravinsky fountain (as well as a lot of crêperies!).
3. Shopping
Le Marais is cramped with boutiques, designer shops and concept stores. So shopping is not a problem! Streets you really shouldn’t miss are Rue Froissart, Rue des Francs Bourgeois, Rue des Rosiers, Rue de Rio de Sicile, Rue de Turenne, Rue Vieille du Temple and Rue Charlot. The big chains are situated in Rue de Rivoli. And the coolest concept store of Paris you will find on 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais, called Merci.
Eat, drink, sleep in Le Marais
4. Breakfast and coffee
On 2 Boulevard Saint Martin you can eat the tastiest breakfast and drink the best-brewed coffee. At Republic of Coffee. An instagram-worthy hotspot!
5. Wandering around the streets of Paris
Get carried away through the beautiful streets of Le Marais. Eat delicious falafel in Rue des Rosiers (Queuing mandatory!). Visit all the art galleries and antique shops in the streets around Place des Vosges. Or lounge on one of the many terraces, with a drink. Walk along the gorgeous Seine. And when you get hungry, don’t miss Berko (23 Rue Rambuteau) for the tastiest piece of cheese cake. You will want to come back for more!
6. Eating in Le Marais
The choice is yours! Do you have a sweet tooth, you should go to Rose Bakery for a yummy croissant or cake. Or La Favorite, at any time of the day. Do you fancy a burger and fries (frites!), Café Charlot is the place for you. And for a tasty latte or breakfast, you should not miss Used Book Café (part of the concept store Merci).
7. Accommodation
My absolute favourite hotel in Le Marais is Hotel Emile. A tiny but very cosy boutique hotel in the centre of Le Marais. The hotel has a hip interior. And the people who work there, are super-friendly. And don’t forget, the oh-so comfortable beds! Croissants, fresh orange juice and coffee every morning. One little thing to note. The shower cabins are placed in the room.
Have fun in my favourite quarter of Paris!
