Yalou

My name is Yalou (21) and I am in love with the world. Ever since I was little I’m dreaming of exploring the world. And that is exactly what I’ve been doing since I graduated from high school in 2014. I bought a plane ticket to Nepal, where my journey started. I fell in love with the Nepali people and their culture, with the nature in Laos and with the ocean of Cambodia. I was deeply impressed by Myanmar and hitchhiked all over Morocco.

In the meantime, I am in my third year of the study Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and I combine my passion for traveling with learning about the world in the broadest sense of the word.

In the lecture hall, my thoughts regularly wander off to Nepal, since that place has stolen my heart. At the moment I am struggling to learn the language, so I will be able to go back and work or do research whenever I’m graduated.

Besides places in Asia and of course Amsterdam, Europe has definitely amazed me too last summer and I cannot wait to explore some more beautiful spots closer to home and write about it for you.

Both traveling and studying have opened up my eyes and I want to do everything in my power to make this world a bit more beautiful. Bit by bit I am on my way to a zero-waste lifestyle. On my own blog, We are the Earth, I let my passions about traveling, anthropology and sustainability meet. Hereby I hope to inspire others, to enjoy them and to make the world a bit more conscious.
